What Impacts the Size of a Yorkiepoo?
There are many facets to consider when trying to determine the Yorkiepoo size when full grown. To get a good estimate, consider the gender, height and weight of their parents, and the generation of your Yorkiepoo. While it is impossible to come up with an exact prediction of how big your dog will be, we can get a general idea.
Gender plays a role in the adult size of any breed, and Yorkiepoos are no exception. While considering a new dog, most people wonder “should I choose a male or female Yorkiepoo?” In general, a male will be 10% larger than females of the same breed.
So for smaller breeds like both the Teacup Yorkiepoo and the Miniature Yorkiepoo, it would not be as noticeable as it would be with a larger breed, such as the Newfypoo or the Bernedoodle. But for the Toy Yorkiepoo size you could expect about a ½-1 pound difference, and for the Mini Yorkiepoo size you might expect 1-1½ pound size difference.
You will also want to consider the size of your Yorkiepoo’s parents. Genetics that are passed down from your dog’s parents can affect how big they will get. If your dog’s parents are on the larger side of the spectrum for their breed, their puppies may also be on the larger size. Genetics is just one part of the puzzle though, so it is not an absolute way to determine how large your puppy may get.
And lastly, the generation of a Yorkiepoo can also determine the size of the dog. A Yorkiepoo’s generation refers to the theoretical genetic makeup of your dog. That is how close their DNA is to that of a Poodle or a Yorkshire Terrier. If you find this confusing, don’t worry! We have an article on the generations of doodles to help if you would like to learn more.
The easiest way to look at this is if the dog has more Yorkshire Terrier than Poodle they may be smaller because Yorkshire Terriers are generally smaller than Poodles. This would be more noticeable in the Miniature Yorkiepoos, than the Teacup Yorkiepoos since there is a bigger size difference in the parents involved in the make-up of the Miniature Yorkiepoo. Of course, this is excluding the other criteria we need to consider.
When Do Yorkiepoos Stop Growing?
Your Yorkiepoo will grow up so quickly! It will fly by so don’t forget to enjoy this special time. We have looked at, “how big do Yorkiepoos get?” But when do Yorkiepoos stop growing?
Smaller breeds like Yorkiepoos reach their full grown size much quicker than larger breeds. Again we look at the growth of the parent breeds. Yorkshire Terrier’s growth slows down between 8-10 months, with some continuing to grow until 1 year. The Toy and Mini Poodle are generally done growing between 6 and 7 months of age, although some continue to grow for up to 1 year.
So you can expect the majority of the Yorkiepoo’s growth to be done around 6-10 months, while taking up to 1 year to fully fill out.
