There are five Goldendoodle sizes—teacup, toy, miniature, medium, and standard.  Read on to find out how big do Goldendoodle get, what impacts the height and weight of a Goldendoodle, and when do Goldendoodles stop growing!

Teacup Goldendoodle Size Full Grown

While not an “official” variety, the Teacup Goldendoodle size, also known as the Petite or Micro Goldendoodle size, is even smaller than the common Toy Goldendoodle size.  This is accomplished by breeding a Mini or Toy Goldendoodle with a Toy Poodle.

The Toy Poodle stands around 10 inches in height and weighs between 6 and 9 pounds.  The Toy Goldendoodle will be around 13 to 20 pounds and stand 14-15 inches in height.

While you should always do your due diligence when selecting a reputable doodle breeder, make sure to be extra thorough if you’re looking for a teacup-sized puppy.

Some irresponsible breeders unfortunately choose to put tiny size ahead of the health of their puppies, resulting in dogs that have numerous health concerns as they grow up.

This is just one reason why I encourage all dog owners to invest in quality pet insurance.

The Toy Goldendoodle size is the second smallest version of the Goldendoodle, right behind the Teacup Goldendoodle.  These little fellows are usually the result of breeding the Toy Poodle with a Mini Goldendoodle.

The Toy Poodle stands around 10 inches in height and weighs between 6 and 9 pounds.  The Mini Goldendoodle stands around 16-20 inches in height and weighs between 20 and 40 pounds.  Sometimes breeders will include Cocker Spaniel heritage in their Toy Goldendoodle mix as well, however this isn’t particularly common.

What Impacts the Weight & Height of a Goldendoodle?

A ton of aspects impact how large your Goldendoodle will be when they’re fully grown!  Some of these include their gender, the height and weight of the parents, and which generation of Goldendoodle your dog is.

The combination of all of these factors make it nearly impossible to predict exactly how big your dog will be, but it helps us come up with a general estimate.

First, their gender plays a role in answering the question of how big do Goldendoodles get.  Should you choose a male vs female Goldendoodle?  In most cases, the height and weight of a male Goldendoodle will be slightly more than a female Goldendoodle.  Not a huge difference, but about 10% larger.

In the smaller Teacup Goldendoodle size, Toy Goldendoodle size, and Mini Goldendoodle size, the height and weight difference between males and females may not be as noticeable as with the larger Standard Goldendoodle size.  In the Standard Goldendoodle, you could expect the males to be roughly 1-4 inches taller and may weigh 5-10 pounds more.

Another important aspect to consider is the size of the parents.  Just like with humans, the genetics that are passed from the parents to their offspring play a role in how large a Goldendoodle will get.

It’s more likely than not that if one of the parents was on the smaller side then their offspring may be a little smaller than average as well.  However, keep in mind that genetics are tough to predict.

Finally, which generation of Goldendoodle your dog is will be a big part of how big they will get!  A Goldendoodle’s “generation” refers to the theoretical genetic makeup of your dog and how close it is to that of a Poodle or a Golden Retriever.

A Goldendoodle that has more Poodle than Goldendoodle could be slightly smaller than a Goldendoodle that has more Golden Retriever than Poodle.  This is excluding all other contending criteria that may affect a dog’s size.  Simply put, the higher percentage of the smaller dog, the smaller the dog is likely to be.

When Do Goldendoodles Stop Growing?

Your Goldendoodle puppy may seem like they’re growing super fast!  Time will fly by and before you know it, their puppy days will be over and they’ll be full grown!  We now know the answer to, “how big do Goldendoodles get?”  But, when do Goldendoodles stop growing?

First, let’s look at the parent breeds.  Golden Retrievers are generally full grown by 2 years of age.  Standard Poodles can take 1.5-2 years to reach their full size.  In contrast, Miniature and Toy Poodles are generally done growing by 6-8 months of age.

Standard Goldendoodles will likely take longer to reach their final size than Mini, Toy, or Teacup Goldendoodles.  This is because larger dogs grow slower over a longer period of time in comparison to smaller breeds.

A Standard or Medium Goldendoodle will likely grow like a weed for the first year and a half of their life, but may continue to grow and completely fill out until 2 years of age.  Considering the mixes that create the Mini, Toy, and Teacup Goldendoodles, they should be done growing closer to 7-12 months old.
